HCV Genotyping using INVADER TechnologyTest Ordering Code: 1086CPT Codes: 87902Turnaround Time:7-10 business days Specimen:This test uses amplified product of HCV Quantitative PCR. There is no need to submit an independant sample for this test. HCV Quantitative PCR must be ordered with this test or performed within the last two months by our lab. Clinical Significance:It is estimated that 4,000,000 people in the United States are infected with Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). The most prevalent genotypes in the U.S. are 1 (70%), 2 (14%), and 3 (11%). Approximately 80% of individuals with HCV become chronically infected and are likely to develop cirrhosis of the liver or hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV is the leading cause for liver transplants and is responsible for 8,000 - 10,000 deaths annually. HCV is treatable and genotyping is vital in determining the length and aggressiveness of treatment for patients infected with any strain of Hepatitis C. Indications for Testing:Patients who test positive for Hepatitis C Determining a proper drug regimen Methodology:INVADER Technology - invasive cleavage of genotypic specific oligonucleotide probes Reporting of Results:Genotype(s) for each patient sample received will be reported References:A Multidisciplinary Approach to Hepatitis C - Roche Diagnostics Invader Technology HCV Genotyping Workshop - Third Wave Technologies, Inc.
